AR, VR and MR in Tourism

Updated: May 3, 2021

In Tourism sector, AR, VR and MR are already implemented. Especially VR. By using Virtual Reality, everyone will have taken a chance to see things with new perspective, expand tourism marketing and explore tourism with much more advanced technologies.

VR is really important and fast growing in this industry. Consumers or potential tourists can only use smartphone to crosscheck items from their itinerary. Hotels, museums, or any attractive place can provide virtual tours to them via VR experience. Of course, the companies or agencies need to invest in the VR equipment and setting. By using 360° camera specialty, the viewer will get the chance to use smartphone and virtual reality to experience it. Tourism companies are also able to narrate their services more creatively.

As for AR, it has been a few years since Google had launched text translate. All you have to do is to scan the text, set the language it needed to translate and voila! it is done, easy-peasy! AR sure very helpful for tourist especially if you travel to a country that had been using characters instead of alphabets such as China, Japan and Korea. With the help of Google Text, tourists are able to check ingredients in products, directions on signboards and the name of a place. With AR, tourist only need the use of their smartphones to scan the foreign words instead of carrying maps everywhere. In addition to that, to read a map also requires skills and it may take time to find your way.

With these technologies, this is a new way to engage with travelers. Other than promoting the places and cultures, it also helps the tourist to make better booking decisions. one of the healthy way to compete with other countries
